Governance

The American Academy is governed by the joint efforts of the Board of Trustees, the Director, and the Faculty. The Trustees manage the Academy’s financial resources. The Board of Trustees meets at least four times in a year to discuss important school-related matters and for making decisions when necessary. The Board is responsible for hiring, evaluating, and if necessary, terminating the Director’s employment.

The Director of the Academy reports to the Board of Trustees. The Trustees are expected to support special events, such as convocation, graduation, closing day, and any other school-sponsored events. The Board of Trustees is comprised of nine voting members; there is no limit on the number of terms a member may serve.
